Cross the esplanade in front of the station and continue along rue du Départ as far as avenue du Maine. Walk past Gaîté underground station and then turn left onto rue Daguerre, famous for its food shops (pedestrianised along section near avenue du Général Leclerc). When you reach the avenue, turn left towards place Denfert-Rochereau where you'll see the famous lion and the entrance to the catacombs.
… And relax.
Continue along avenue Denfert-Rochereau then turn into rue Cassini so you can admire the Paris Observatory. Continue down avenue de l'Observatoire, cross boulevard du Montparnasse and carry on past la Closerie des Lilas. You'll come to the Jardin des Grands Explorateurs. At the corner of avenue de l'Observatoire and rue Michelet, you'll spot the beautiful Institut d'art et archéologie (Institute of Art and Archaeology).
Carry on through the Jardin du Luxembourg gardens: make for the pond, the band stand, the Palais du Luxembourg and the museum.
